eastern state penitentiary

Posted in Personal

I lived in Philadelphia for 8 years, walked the 2000 block of Fairmount Ave hundreds of times, and even rented an apartment two blocks from the haunting structure for a year, but never saw the other side of the Eastern State Penitentiary’s 30 foot tall stone walls.  “Eastern State Penitentiary was once the most famous and expensive prison in the world.”  Last week Latos and I traveled to Philadelphia to visit friend and fellow photographer Jackie Bayne.   The next day we found ourselves on Fairmount Ave and decided to finally take a tour.  After our awesome and fascinating but freezing tour we stopped into Mugshots Cafe (conveniently located across the street) for warm beverages.

  1. LOVE! I lived just a few blocks from there for years and never took the tour! Blog post is so cool because I have always wanted to know what was behind those walls! Now I get why everyone does the halloween tours!!

  2. Haunting, yes. But gorgeous photos!
