Habitat in Haiti

Posted in Volunteer

Last July I found out that I had won the Habitat World photo contest, you can see the photo here… http://magazine.habitat.org/stories/tesfaye-s-sweat-equity.  My prize was a spot on the Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter Work Project in Leogane, Haiti.  I joined 600 other volunteers to build 100 houses in one week.  Along with my teammates from Greif, our crew leader, Bob, and our amazing homeowners, Jean-Robert Doudoute and Marie Chantal Similien, we built two homes in the blazing heat.  It was incredibly hard work and at times frustrating because of the quarks of working with limited electricity, but rewarding and a truly unique experience.  I have so many stories and made numerous new friends from all around the world in just one short week.  This year the Carter Work Project will be in the USA, but if you are interested in international travel I would strongly recommend Habitat’s Global Village Trips.
